In Redding, Connecticut there is a magnificent field of daffodils that attracts countless numbers of visitors each Spring. It is known for its beauty and for its lovely scent.

But nature didn't plant most of those daffodils.

(Story continues from "Read More")

Bud did, because Florence loved daffodils.

Bud, a high school science teacher, also loved daffodils and began planting them on a big piece of their property in the 1970's.

But to him those daffodils took on a much deeper meaning when Florence, his wife of 60-years, passed away in 1999 at the age of 82. He was heart-broken.

For the next 20-years, Bud devoted himself to creating a daffodil heaven in her honor. And each Spring, people came to see this wonderous garden.

But in 2019, at the age of 103, Bud passed away, having still planted daffodils until his final days.

What was to become of this magnificent daffodil field? Bud and Florence never had children, and their property was listed for sale.

Most prospective buyers would likely tear out Bud's daffodils, to build a private residence.

But then Bud's neighbor Stacey Steinmetz stepped in.

She bought the property, and plans to keep it in all of its splendor for everyone to enjoy, a tribute now to Bud and Florence and to all those who love daffodils.

"I guess, just like his love grew, the field continues to grow," Stacey told CBS News. "You know, it's everlasting and its expanding, so I certainly wouldn't want that to be lost."
