How Hercules, a cat who suffered a living hell, is now prospering.
The scene was gut-wrenching.
In 2022, in the Minneapolis area, 47-cats were packed together in an SUV, living in stench with their human companion.
After police rescued them, they arrived in animal rescue facilities. That is, all but one. During the rescue, Hercules escaped.

As reported by The Washington Post, for a month, Tuff Start Rescue searched extensively for Hercules, according to veterinarian Nicole Perreault, who runs Tuff Start.
And then one day, he was found sitting on a doorstep. He was covered with maggots, had a broken jaw, and a badly damaged tongue. Eating was nearly impossible.
Hercules was brought to Tuff Start.
"We suspected he might have been hit by a car," Nicole told The Post. "He was so near death that I wondered if it would be more humane to euthanize him."
But suddenly 6-year-old Hercules came alive, and charmed Nicole. "I got the impression that he really wanted to fight," she said.
She and her staff cleaned him, fed him and put him on an IV with fluids and pain medication. As he gained strength, they took him to a veterinary oral surgeon to fix his jaw.
Nicole posted photos of Hercules on Facebook to share the hope he would recover, and then to get the loving care he deserved.
St. Paul pediatric nurse Jill LeBrun who had fostered dogs and cats for Tuff Start took him. "As a nurse, I'm attracted to medically fragile animals."
As Hercules bonded with her other cat, Kay, and her puppy, Juni; Jill adopted him.
With his distinctive look and affectionate personality, Hercules is now modeling cat products for Target, and living his best life in a loving home.
