4-year-old Lilo was abandoned on the streets of Chattanooga, Tenn. The full note read:

"Please keep my name. My name is Lilo. Please love me."

"My mom can't keep me and is homeless with 2 kids. She tried her best but can't get help. I cost too much for her. She really loves me and I'm a great dog and love to be loved on. Please don't abuse me."

A good Samaritan took Lilo to the McKamey Animal Center.

"We all cried reading the note," said Lauren Mann, of McKamey to The Washington Post. "We see a lot of sad stuff every single day, but it just really hit us all."

"We decided collectively that we were going to do everything we could to reunite them and get them back on their feet," added Lauren.

The shelter put her story on Facebook, titled: "A Note To Lilo's Mom: We're here for you," and on TikTok.

They assured mom they would take great care of Lilo and would find her a wonderful home. "But if you are reading this, we hope you will come forward to reclaim her."

"We will help you with whatever you need to care for her, to the best of our ability," adding they are "well connected" with agencies that help homeless people.

A day later a friend saw the post, told Lilo's mom, who came to McKamey that day.

"There was not a dry eye in the room," said Lauren.

Lilo's mom and her two children are living in a shelter that does not allow animals, but McKamey and others are working to relocate them to an animal friendly home.

Until then, Lilo lovingly awaits them at McKamey.
