In 2020, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis, 14-year-old Shariya Small gave birth to premature triplets, two girls and a boy, each weighing less than two pounds.

Afterward, she received no family support!

Her nurse, Katrina Mullen, a 23-year neonatal nurse in speaking of Shariya told The Washington Post, "she was always by herself, and she would be there for days at a time."

"I couldn't imagine being 14-years-old and being not only pregnant, but having preemies who are all very sick and hooked up to monitors", Katrina told The Post.

Nurse Katrina reached out to Shariya unsuccessfully, until she shared a dark secret from her own life.

At 16, nurse Katrina gave birth to a baby, one she put up for adoption.

She understood Shariya's problems and soon, like mother and daughter they began to bond.

Five months later, Shariya and her babies left the hospital to move in with a relative in Kokomo, Indiana but she often called nurse Katrina for help.

When nurse Katrina visited Shariya, she saw the triplets' care was terrible. Child Protective Services was about to put the babies into foster care, likely in different homes.

So, 45-year-old nurse Katrina, a single mother of five boys, agreed to foster Shariya and her babies and moved them in with her, on April 9, 2021.

It went so well, that on February 6th, 2023 nurse Katrina adopted Shariya as her daughter and her children are now nurse Katrina's grandchildren.

Shariya's babies are healthy and thriving! And she graduated from an alternative high school in June, and is enrolling in college.

Sometimes, when life is at its darkest, a guardian angel arrives and miracles happen, as happened here.
