An unwanted dog who languished in a shelter for 11-years, finds a loving home

Elder pit bull Vanessa arrived at the Villalobos Rescue Center in New Orleans as a puppy, because her owners were moving and no longer wanted her.

Villalobos owner Tia Torres recalls the steamy hot August, 2012 day when Vanessa was left at the shelter.

Tia told The Washington Post, "They pulled up, rolled the truck door open and left her like a piece of old furniture."

"She appeared to be about 12-weeks old, and she was emaciated. If she'd been left in that hot truck much longer, she would have died."

(Story continues from "Read More")

Villalobos shelters 400 - 500 dogs, placing about 50 dogs each month. No-one claimed Vanessa.

Then one day on the Villalobos Facebook page, Ellie Mitchell spotted this elderly dog as she read the caption, "Overlooked for 11 Years."

Ellie, a paramedic from Greenwood, Delaware and loving companion to three other rescue dogs told The Post, "I saw her sweet little face and my heart just went out to her."

"It made me sad to think she'd lived her whole life without a family."

A typical pit bull life span is 12 - 14 years. But Ellie loves "old lady pit bull dogs."

Ellie's dogs are her family and she loves spending time with them.

As for Vanessa, "I'm looking forward to spoiling her rotten." Adding, "I just want to make her final years the best years she's ever known. Vanessa has definitely earned it."

Tia and Villalobos are famous for their reality show "Pit Bulls & Parolees," which told the stories of ex-cons and the dogs they helped.
