Puppies in the classroom.
At Hanby Elementary School in Wilmington, Delaware first grade teacher Brooke Hughes was seeking a way to inspire her students.
And she found a very special way, partnering with Rags 2 Riches Animal Shelter to bring puppies into her classroom during "reading time."
As reading scores jumped sharply, "reading time" became "puppy time" and everyone couldn't be happier.

In interacting with the children, the children have fun and the puppies become humanized.
The program has become so popular, that some of the puppies go home overnight and even on weekends with the students, the teaching staff and their families.
Some puppies even live with those families for as long as two weeks. The result is that in the two years this puppy program has existed, 51 puppies now have permanent homes.
And there is one more benefit.
As Brooke told ABC News, "If you're having a hard day, the puppies kinda just lift your spirits."
