Rescuing a 3-pound puppy dumped in the garbage.
Last May, a husky puppy now named Stevie, was lifted from a garbage can and rushed to Austin Pets Alive, an Austin, Texas animal shelter known for its veterinary care.
At 3-pounds, tiny 4-week-old Stevie was just half the normal weight of a husky puppy, and was so cold and weak, she was barely alive.

Stevie's blood sugar was too low to read, and she was so fragile, she could not lift her head, nor could she eat without assistance.
"She was in real critical condition, not doing great at all," Jordana Moerbe, the medical director at Austin Pets Alive, told The Washington Post.
"She looked pretty sad; her gums were white and pale."
Stevie was immediately placed on an IV catheter to rehydrate her and elevate her blood glucose, and put on antibiotics as well.
"People don't always understand how to care for young puppies, especially when they're so small," said the medical director.
"With quick critical care and some time, they bounce back really well." And within 2-days, that is what happened to Stevie.
Just weeks after her rescue, Stevie began flourishing in her new home, having been adopted by Angee Cornick of Dripping Springs, Texas.
Angee had read about this puppy, on an Austin Pets Alive Facebook post. "I read the post, and I was like, 'This is the one; she needs us.'"
Stevie's family includes Pepper, a 6-year-old black lab/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, rescue. And as of this writing, she weighs 6-pounds, and is growing stronger.
Said Angee:
"This little girl is going to get so much love and attention and care, and all of the experiences that she deserves."
