Shirley Ordonio: Making playgrounds accessible for disabled children
Shirley, of Curitiba, Brazil has twin daughters, one of whom was born with cerebral palsy.
Hoping the two girls could play together at the local playground, Shirley learned a harsh lesson:

Her local playground, like many playgrounds everywhere had no equipment for disabled children.

Determined to change that Shirley pursued her local government to invest in equipment disabled children could use.
It took five-years, but last November, Shirley’s park added accessible playground equipment and soon special needs children were happily playing there.

The response has been so strong, that Brazil is now looking to add special needs equipment in parks across the nation.
